Making Applesauce

I DID IT, MY FIRST YEAR MAKING APPLESAUCE WITHOUT MY MOM'S HELP!!!

I have the "youngest-of-8 children" syndrome in which I feel I can do no *difficult* thing without my Mother. And by difficult, I mean canning. To me, she is the MASTER, she doesn't have any instruction book she follows, she effortlessly flows from one task to the next until she has 200 quarts of applesauce sitting before her. I'm just along for the ride. Seriously.

But I decided I better grow up and this was the year I did.

Now, mind you, my two Amish nieces VOLUNTEERED to join me....or shall I say, rescued me.

It's a main point that they are Amish because they've been making applesauce/canning since they could use a knife, which was probably age 5. They instinctively know what they're doing.

I didn't even know how to cut the apple up without wasting 1/2 of it.
They kindly showed me.
And I watched carefully.

They came into my kitchen and told me what to do.

And I enjoyed every minute of it....THANK YOU ANNIE & BETTY, YOU WERE A BLAST to work alongside, you helped me learn a new thing today and gave me the confidence to do it! And you gave of your time and energy to stock OUR pantry....BLESS YOUR HEARTS!!!

Until next year.....

Woah! I've never seen a canning pot like that! Good job, Janelle; I love canning, something I miss living abroad. It is a special thing. My mother-in-law already canned applesauce for our return; so sweet. Oh my, only 4 months! Blessings!

WOW!! Impressive! It's been a few years since I've made applesauce...but I didn't have experts beside me and I was too lazy to can, so it got frozen in baggies. Yours is much prettier!

Sarah~i know, isn't it great!!?? I'm officially "old" when I ask for something like that for Christmas....which may be the case this year....this canner was Annie's!

Terri~don't be impressed. I followed instructions. :) And it is much prettier I think when canned....and takes up less space.

I am immmmmmpressed as well! The question that I would LOVE the answer to is: How does one cut the apple without losing 95% of the 'meat' (like i do??).

If making applesauce w/out Mom constitutes growing up, it appears as though I'll be forever young, .... sing it w/ me now brother Thomas! lol

I also have a great need to be rescued from scary things such as making applesauce and canning. Even though I'm the oldest child! Definitely a frightful thing for me to make it on my own, although I've had to brave it and venture out on a limb because of not having my mother closeby!

So sweet of Jake's neices to help you out! I was kind of tripping out though... Amish with earrings?? That's a first for me! :)

Amy~not 100% sure, I'll let you know via facebook when I find out....my GUESS would be an Amish goods store, (there's a new one in Intercourse, PA).
